About MEGA

Since 2001, the not-for-profit local development corporation Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance (MEGA) has helped hundreds of upstate New York local governments save and stabilize energy costs for municipal facilities through our unique and effective group buying program.  Representatives of counties and other local governments constitute the MEGA Corporation and Board of Directors.  Information about MEGA’s energy supply programs for municipal facilities can be found at megaenergy.org.

For years our municipal participants have been asking us to offer the same services and better electric rates to their residents.  MEGA is now ready and able to apply its successful energy procurement experience to benefit residents of municipalities in upstate New York, by helping local leaders authorize and provide Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) Programs.

The Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance (MEGA) has made significant contributions to the development of CCA in NYS. From presentations at technical conferences to edits of draft State documents, we’ve been at the table since the beginning of the conversation making sure the program works for you.

As MEGA’s technical consultant, EnergyNext, Inc. has managed group energy-buying programs since the inception of NY deregulation in the mid-1990s. Since 2012, EnergyNext’s parent company, Satori Energy, has been the consultant for nearly 40 communities in Illinois and has guided them through all phases of community choice aggregation. This consortium of communities represents 40,000 accounts, and approximately $9 million in savings to date.
