Residents could see smaller utility bills

ELMIRA N.Y. (WENY) — The Elmira City Council officially passed a new Local Law during Monday’s meeting which could lower electric bills for residents.

The City of Elmira has now created the “Community Choice Aggregation Program.”

The move allows the city to combine the energy needs of residents and small commercial customers so officials can negotiate lower energy prices.

Residents are automatically signed up for the program, but can opt out at any time.

“It’s basically to reduce costs for our residents. Anything you can help residents save money is a good thing and that’s what this non-profit does,” says Elmira City Mayor Dan Mandell.

The law will help serve residents who use gas and electric as their source of energy.
